This section presents the historical evolution of the IT and network structures of the University of Crete, from the establishment of the Data Processing Laboratory in 1990 to the modern form of the Digital Governance Unit. Through significant organizational changes and institutional decisions, the gradual strengthening of the digital infrastructure and services of the Institution is highlighted, with the aim of continuously supporting its educational, research and administrative operations.

Establishment of a Laboratory
The Data Processing Laboratory was established by Presidential Decree No. 174 (Government Gazette No. 63/10-4-1990) as a laboratory of the School of Sciences and Technology.

Establishment of the Center for IT Infrastructure and Services
This center is composed of six (6) departments/units: the Department of Educational Technologies, the Department of Administrative Information Systems and Management Economics, the Department of Information Management, the Department of Computing Infrastructure, the Department of Networks and Communications, and the Secretariat.
